Allan Kardec was the codifier of Spiritism. With teachings received from higher spirits through various mediums, he wrote five books that became the foundation of the Spiritist Doctrine: The Spirits’ Book, The Book on Mediums, The Gospel According to Spiritism, Heaven and Hell, and The Genesis. He also left unpublished writings that were compiled 21 years after his death into Posthumous Works, as well as other introductory works on the doctrine, many of which remain untranslated into English. Allan Kardec is the pen name of a French educator named Léon-Hippolyte-Denizard Rivail. He was born in Lyon, France, on October 3, 1804.

Chico Xavier (1910–2002) was a Brazilian medium recognized as the greatest psychographer of all time. At the age of 4, he could already see and converse with spirits. His first book, containing 256 poems attributed to deceased poets, was published in 1932. He psychographed over 400 books and donated the copyright to the Spiritist Federation.

Adolfo Bezerra de Menezes Cavalcanti (Riacho do Sangue, August 29, 1831 – Rio de Janeiro, April 11, 1900), better known as Bezerra de Menezes, was a physician, military man, writer, journalist, politician, philanthropist, and exponent of the Spiritist Doctrine. He was nicknamed “The Doctor of the Poor.”
Bezerra was the catalyst for the entire Spiritist movement in Brazil, exactly as prophesied by Ismael. He was President of the FEB (Brazilian Spiritist Federation) in 1889, and although he resigned in 1895, when the organization faced significant divisions, he remained connected until 1900.
